Darvin DeShazer Scholarship Program

The Sonoma Mycological Society (SOMA) is pleased to announce two types of educational scholarships: graduate level students in mycology, and for 4th-12th grade students. Our hope is that these scholarships will stimulate further interest and study in the amazing world of fungi. Funds for these awards are earned from the proceeds of our annual SOMA Camp.

4th-12th grade scholarships

Application deadline: November 15th

In order to encourage younger students to come to camp, we are instituting this new, exciting scholarship opportunity. If you are in a grade 4th to 12th and have an interest in mycology, we encourage you to participate in this opportunity.

There will be opportunities for up to 2 students to obtain scholarships used toward attendance at the annual SOMA Wild Mushroom Camp in January.

Graduate level scholarships

The two collegiate scholarships are open to graduate students interested in studying fungi.

Winning applicants will give a presentation dealing with some aspect of mycology at one of the regular SOMA meetings during the next 24 months. The subject matter of the presentation can be quite diverse and original, but is often related to the winning applicant's unique focus and interest in mycology.
